  • If you have time… volunteer with us – help us mail out newsletters, share your talents at program, spread the word
  • If you provide a service or a resource… offer it to enhance our program, provide professional development for our staff, do a workshop for our parents/guardians
  • If you have money… help us keep our programs free and accessible to families – subsidize a child at camp, make snack available, contribute to our transportation fund… DONATE NOW

VOLUNTEERING with Powerhouse Project:

Volunteers play an important and valued role at Powerhouse Project. There are opportunities to volunteer with our weekly programs, life skills programs, special events and in the office. Let us know what your interests and skills are and we will help to find the best placement for you! Below are some of the qualifications, expectations and benefits of being a Powerhouse Project volunteer!

QUALIFICATIONS

Programs and Special Events

  • Previous experience and/or an interest in working with children and youth.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Confidence to lead small groups of children and youth.
  • Ability to problem solve and use common sense.
  • Caring and compassion.
  • Patience and understanding.
  • Cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to refrain from passing judgment on individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Administrative Support

  • Previous experience and/or an interest in filing, computer work, data entry and other administrative tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to problem solve and use common sense.
  • Caring and compassion.
  • Patience and understanding.
  • Cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to refrain from passing judgment on individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

COMMITMENT

  • Participation in, and successful completion of, the initial training.
  • Participation in ongoing training.
  • To be available for a minimum 2 hours every week during the school year (October to June) for weekly programs or on an as needed basis for Special Events programming and administrative support.
  • Complete a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
